OK, since no one but me reads this, I decided to start putting some of my thoughts in this. I am a political junkie, always have been. I have been active in the Republican Party here in East Texas since 1996. Worked on the successfull campaigns of Congressman Flynn, Congressman Hall, Senator Duell and several county wide offices. I am very conservative but with libertarian leanings.

As you can tell if you read some of the old posts on this blog, I read meters for a living (electric, water and gas) for a private company. I work outside in the field no matter the weather. As a result of going in to all of these different stores (Shoping centers) to read their meters every month I meet and talk to hundreds of people every month.

I am an avid reader, I read a little bit of everythng all though my first love is Science Fiction. I am currently on a western binge reading Compton, Cotton, Kelton and Jonas Ward.
I have been happily married since 1986 and have two daughters. The oldest of which is getting ready to grauduate from High School as the Valadictorian and is going to be attending Texas A&M next year. She wants to be an Aerospace Engineer. My Youngest wants to attend Baylor and become a Doctor.
A bit about my Politics:

Abortion: I believe it is murder and that Roe vs Wade should overturned. It should be up to the individual states whether or not they allow Abortion. Personally I would like to see it eliminated completely, HOWEVER this is not a Federal issue and the Federal Govt should but out.

Immigration: As a result of 911 I think we should close our borders to any more immigration until the immigrants that are currently here become a part of our society. IE Learn English, become contributing members of our society, learn the culture that is uniquely American. I have no problem with people celebrating the heritage of their home country but not when they ignore the heritage of the United States.

Illegal Immigration: Secure the borders, Deport anyone and everyone that BROKE THE LAW entering the United States. The Minuteman project prooved that the borders can be secured, so lets station the National
Guard on the border and end this invasion.

Drugs: I am against the legalization of drugs. If instead of making excuses for the people using and selling drugs we started EXECUTING drug pushers then the problem would solve itself.

Sexual Predators: Rapists, Child Molestors and people who are involved in the production, selling or use of child pornography should be Executed. The repeat rate for child molestors is over 99%, lets not give them a second chance.

The War on Terrorism: I would rather fight the terrorists in Baghdad than Birmingham. President Bush is right to take the war to them. Their will be no peace with these murdering Islamofacists until we kill every single one of them.

I will add more specific subjects thoughts as time goes by.

The subject I would like to talk(rant) on today is the growing intolerance in our political dialog. Since the election of 2000 we have seen the liberal left lunatics grow shriller and shriller. Accusing the President and Conservatives of every imiginable crime. At first the leaders of the Democrat Party did not join in on this type of insanity, however starting in early 2003 with the growing success of Howard Dean the Dem Party leaders more and more began to embrace and even endorse this type of political hate speach. We had Presidential canidates suggesting that the President knew in advance about 911 and did nothing, we had Senators claim that the Iraq war was planned in the President's kitchen before he was elected. On the whole the Conservative right responded to these charges with facts but did not stoop to the same level of venom.

The Terry Schaivo case seems to have changed that. People that normally would discuss and debate rationally and considerately started screaming and spewing venom. Normally rational intelligent conservatives advocated that Govenor Bush IGNORE the law and seize Terry Shaivo and reconnect the feeding tubes. These were the same people that screamed bloody murder when Janet Reno seized Illian Gonazales --illegaly -- and deported him to Cuba.

Now the right has joined in this insanity. They accuse the President of being an idiot and every other vile name that comes to mind because they disagree with his extremly soft position on immigration. Which I might add I disagree with too. They demand that the President do something about the fact that someone they disapprove of was elected Mayor of Los Angelos. Again, I want to point out that I think the new Mayor of LA was a bad choice but he is the legally elected Mayor of LA. They scream and condemn the fact that the Govenor's Election in the state of Washington was stolen by the Democrats but now they advocate doing the same thing in Los Angelos!

I fear the greatest threat to the future of our nation may not be the Islamofacists that threaten us from without or the Activist Judges that almost on a daily basis ignore the Constitution in order to push their personal Political Agenda. Instead the greatest threat to the future of our nation may be our growing inability to rationally debate our differences. When the day comes that the two sides no longer feel that they can discuss and compromise then all bets are off. The last time in this nation we reached an impass of this nature was 1861. It took 4 years of bloodshed to end that impasse, do we really want to reapeat that sad chapter in our history?

Hello Unk. Your old friend, MT, here.

I do agree with you that dialogue (if you can still call it that) has become extremely strident these days. But I simply cannot help putting the blame on the extreme left.

Ever since the Lewinsky debacle, the left has become more and more irrational and out of control. Their double standards have reached such a "high", that it would be comical if it wasn't so annoying.

Personally, I cannot blame those on our side for being exasperated and flying off the handle. Lord knows I've been guilty of the same crime, if you want to call it that.

But Unk, when I hear for the millionth time that Bush stole the 2000 elections; that conservatives are "knuckle-dragging morons, incapable of anything but hatred and bigotry" just because we stand by our principles and beliefs; that Bush's judicial nominees are "ideological extremists" while it's the left's activist judges who legislate from the bench in order to give their interest groups the power that the latter cannot get through the ballot; when I hear the disrespectful - and hateful - way Condi Rice is treated by the democrats in the Senate because she dared stray from the nice, white, liberal plantation that the left devised for all African-Americans in this country (and which is run by the likes of Jesse Jackson); when I hear the self-described "unbiased" media trying to pin the latest Newsweek blunder on Bush AGAIN, I simply cannot keep my temper. And why should I? Why should I go out of my way to show respect for people who don't even bother to tame their hatred for me and all I stand for? So yes, I grow exasperated, frustrated, and give them a piece of my mind. They do the same to me, so we're even.

As for those on our ranks who lash out at Bush for "allowing" Angelenos to elect a liberal Hispanic, yes, that is totally ridiculous. I could not agree more with you.

But again, they see that it works so well for the left when they do it, so they are tempted to do the same. I'm not justifying them. Just stating a fact.

There's another thing. Until recently, the left thought it had the monopoly on "attitude." They were convinced that only they had the right to insult conservatives and call them names. Now, conservatives (some of them, at least; among which is yours truly) are giving these people a taste of their own medicine ... and lefties don't like it ONE BIT. So they resort to their same old, same old whining "Conservatives are hate-filled, mean-spirited, etc." Have you noticed how when it's lefties that bash conservatives (never mind how viciously), it's because they are so "passionate about their beliefs." But when we do the same to them, we're just "hate-filled Neardenthals" and should be told to shut up.

One would have to have the internal temperature of a dead fish to stand that with any degree of equanimity. I'm not a fish. Not even a live one.

Will things ever change? I don't know. Is that our greatest threat? No, but it certainly paves the road for the other threats to come.

But I must be honest with you on one thing: I am sick to death, fed to the back teeth, with giving the other side of my face to lefties that they may bitchslap to their heart's content every time they disagree with me, for the, in this case, dubious honor of being "civil." Civil intercourse is a two-way road. Don't expect any from me unless you're willing to show me some first.

Best regards.

1) You managed to misspell "Schiavo" two different ways.

2) Imprisoning Al Capone until his death, and killing Dillinger and other crime figures in the era of alcohol prohibition sure made alcohol disappear, didn't it!

Glad to see that the grammer and spelling police are still patrolling the internet.

Dillinger robbed no more banks after his death, neither did Baby Face Nelson, Bonnie and Clyde or any of the other criminals you are refering to. If AL Capone had been put to death instead of just imprisioned he would have also cease to commit crimes. Dead People dont break the law.

Who knew what a left wing liberal Bush was in 04? Since his infamous surrender speech ("vigilantes" - indeed!) a months ago; the terrorists have got new life, attacks have been up and over a thousand have died. Now the liberal mayor of LA (Antonio) is picking up the leftist smear and attacking the "vigilantes". Bush lied to us when he said he wanted to win the War on Terror. At least Arnold and the Minutemen still want to fight terrorists and protect America. I voted for another left wing Bush!

President Bush is NOT a left wing liberal, yes he is soft on immigration, but that is a long way from making him a liberal. In case it has slipped your mind we have fought two wars during President Bush's tour of duty both against Terrorism. Bush NEVER LIED about his feelings on immigration, he said the same thing in 2000 and 2004. Only someone that was no paying attention would think he was anything but soft on immigration.
