AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Gov. Rick Perry
asked lawmakers Tuesday to follow him in the boldest initiative of his administration: selling the Texas Lottery to subsidize health insurance for 500,000 low-income adults and fund research to help cure cancer in 10 years.

In his biennial State of the State address, Perry detailed his shoot-for-the-stars proposal that envisions pooling the best resources of the state's medical research network to produce breakthroughs in cancer treatment. The infusion of money also would be used to counter one of the state's most persistent problems, its high national ranking in the share of residents without health insurance.

In order for the Govenor to sell this Numbers racket (oh excuse me, I mean State Lottery) to a private company FIRST the state would have to legalize gambling in Texas. Hmmmmmmmmmmm, Why does that strike me as a bad ideal and something that Conservative might oppose!

So if we allow Privatized Gambling Concerns then the State can afford to provide Health Care to people who dont have any. Excuse me, since when was it the job of the State Govt to provide Health care?

"We're thinking outside the box to come up with solutions," said press secretary Robert Black. "This plan is financially sound and begins to answer the long-term needs of the state." [/quote]

I thnk what he meant to say was thinking ouside the CONSTITUTION to come up with more gimmies. This plan is financially sound (Bankrolled by gambling) and begins to answe the long-term needs of the state (But ignores the constitution and starts a whole new set of long term problems).

The Only thing this "Program" does is answer the question of whether or not Rick Perry is a Conservative. He is NOT!!!
