Candidates embrace cash-and-run approach

Texas won't be a battlefield, but at least a few pause for questions while fundraising.

Any presidential candidate visiting Texas has to be comfortable shamelessly chasing money likely to be spent in other states where voters will sort party nominees before the March 4 Texas primaries. They also have to be ready to chat with anyone at any time, disregarding pressure to collect the cash and get back on the plane.

Nine candidates have already proved solid Texas fundraisers. Through September, they'd raised nearly $20 million in Texas, with former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani leading at $4 million-plus,
