IF you are a regular reader of this blog let me appoligize for the long delay between posts. The fact is that I have been so busy with the holidays, vacation and the election that I have not had the extra time to post here. I will not promise that I will do better but I will try. (3 "I"s and 3 "Will"s in one sentance ---Jeez)
SPORTS:
My Cowboys had a great season (13-3) but an early exit from the playoffs. It's hard to remember back to August when we all were hoping for a 10 - 6 season and a shot at the playoffs. I think Tony (Romo) learned alot this season and will be significantly better next year.
My Mav's continue to win more than they lose but dont seem to have the fire for a serious playoff run this year. I am beginning to wonder if the Mavs can win with Dirk as the main man.
The Less said about the Texas Rangers the better. Once again they have managed to underwhelm us all in the off season. Signing worn out pitchers and "Troubled" outfielders.
Politics:
I am still on the Duncan Hunter band wagon but not sure how much longer he will stay in the race. I look at the "Frontrunners" and find major problems with all four of them but I think Mitt Romney may be the most acceptable of the group. Its a shame that Fred Thompson never got out and worked hard for the nomination. I cant support McCain or Rudy and everyday I find more things about Huckabee that disturb me.
Locally I am actively involved in two campaigns. Trying hard to get a Conservative elected Hunt County District Attorney and County Commissioner (my end of the County). I filed to run for Hunt County Republican Party Chairman last month (Dec 07). The filing deadline was Jan 2nd. No one decided to run against me, so Come this May I will be the new Hunt County Republican Party Chairman. I am honored that folks trust me enough to ask me to do the job.
Car Shopping:
on Jan 2nd my sweet wife was involved in an Automobile accident. Some kid pulled out of a parkin lot and slammed into the side of her truck. No one was hurt in the accident but her truck was badly damaged. A couple of days ago the insurance company (Thank God he was insured) informed us that the Truck was "Totaled". SO we have spent the last few days car shopping. It looks like we might buy a 2006 Ford Taurus.
Books:
In the last month I read the latest addition to the 1632 saga by Eric Flint. The book is called "The Ring of Fire 2". A very good book which I recommend for any fan of the series, BUT thisis not a stand alone book. If you have not read any of the other books in the series it wont make any sense.
After ignoring them for several years I decided to try to read one of the new Star Trek book. Ok, truth be known I was out of books to read and it was the only book that looked half way decent at the store. The book was "Resistance" by JM Dillard. For the first time in years I discovered a mainstream Star Trek that was not Trite full of cliches and predictable. The book was very well written and exciting. (a Strong Recommendation), Being a sucker by nature I went out and bought Q & A (another Star Trek Book) written by Keith DeCandido. Again I Was surprised because this was not just another "Formula" book like Pocket had been publishing for at least 10 years. Q&A was not as good as Resistance but it was still worth reading. I decided to go ahead and press my luck. So I bought a third Star Trek book. This one was "Before Dishonor" by Peter David. I will admit right up front that Mr David is one of the best series writers that I have found and I am seldom disappointed by his work. "Before Dishonor" is a MUST read for any fan of Star Trek fiction. This book takes a BOLD step in reshaping the direction of the Post-TV Series universe of Star Trek.
