The Drawbacks of Democracy

One of the serious drawbacks of democracy is that sometimes people are elected that should not be. When the person elected is merely incompetent, we all smile and shake our heads. Promise ourselves that we will pay more attention in the next election and go on with our lives. When the person is corrupt, if necessary, we can take the steps to remove them from office. It may not always work but at least we can make the attempt.

When another nation elects a government we don't care for, we do our best to ignore differences and work with the duly elected representatives of that nation. We have that problem with France whose Leadership is as Anti-American, as Saddam Hussein was. They have done their level best to not only hamper American interests, but they have actively conspired with some of our enemies. To be specific, the Oil for food scandal, where Saddam traded Oil with France, Germany, Russia and various other "Allies" of ours, in direct violation of United Nations Resolutions.

Now we are faced with a situation unlike any we have ever faced before. A democratic election that was fair and above board has elected a TERRORIST organization to rule their "nation" In their election Monday, Jan 23rd 2006, the people living in the Palestinian Authority elected HAMAS, one of the most vicious blood soaked terrorist groups in the middle east, to lead them. This organization is recognized by every civilized nation on Earth as a Terrorist organization. They have taken "Credit" for hundreds of suicide bombers over the last ten years. This group has consorted with AlQeida, Saddam Hussein, Mohamar Kadaffi and was condemned by no less than Yassar Araphat as a Blood Thirsty band of terrorists that stood in the way of mid east peace.

They are now in control of the Palestinian Authority. As if that was not enough to make you want to give up on humanity, let me share a quote from a former President of the United States with you:

"The Palestinian Government is destitute, and in desperate financial straits. I hope that support for the new government will be forthcoming," Carter said at a Jerusalem press conference. President Carter was quoted in the Jan 26th 2006 issue of the Jerusalem post.

I would like to make two suggestions:

1) The United States government cut off all aid going to the Palestinian Authority and refuse to recognize this "government" and

2) President Carter stick to building houses for the poor and stop making a fool out of himself in public.
