Where I have been

Since this is my blog and the folks that read it are either my friends or at least mildly intrested in what is going on in my life and my opinions I decided that I would explain fully my extended absense this month here. I am going to use a timeline method to explain it because that is the easiest way for me to put it all down.

OK Here goes.

April 2nd - 8th

Started feeling sick, flu like symptoms. Personally I thought it was the flu so I basically ignored it. I contined to work and update all the sites I work on. I attended the Hunt County Republican Men's Club on Saturday the 7th but felt to sick to do more than just mention our upcoming fundraiser for the County party.

April 9th

My wife refused to let me go to work. Insisted that I either go to the Doctor or the emergency room. So we went to see Dr Underwood our family doc. Dr Underwood ran a bunch of tests and perscribed some drugs for me. He told us I was very sick but wasn't sure exactly what the problem was and would not be until the blood tests and other test results came in. Told me to go home and rest until we had some results in.

April 11th

Dr Underwood called us because the test results had started coming in and he wanted me in the hospital immediately. At this point the blood tests for Dr Underwood had come in and he had me admitted to the hospital because I had Micro-Plasma Pnemonia and was suffering from Hypo-Thryoidism. (for more info on this condition please visit this site: http://www.medicinenet.com/hypothyroidism/article.htm) When they got me into the hospital and started running their tests they discovered I was suffering from Myxedema.

April 12th -- April 17th

I was in Presby Hospital in Greenville as they brought the Pnemonia under control and tried to bring my "TSH" levels down to an acceptable level. From what I understand my "TSH" levels were over 300 and they are not supposed to be over 5. They also discovered that I have a "Goiter" on my thyroid and this growth has spots on it that will need to be tested (We will not use the "C" word) once my system has recovered enough to move on to the next step. Late on the 17th I was released from the Hospital and told to go home and rest. Dr Underwood wanted to send me on to Baylor in Dallas but there were no rooms and there was nothing else they could do for me in Greenville, so he sent me home with specific instructions on what to watch for.

April 19th

My wife rushed me to the Emergency room because she had been basically unable to wake me since 7 PM the previous night. This was in late afternoon, so I had been asleep for about 22 hours. My body was trying to slip into a Myxedema Coma. (For more info on this condition please visit this site: http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=19712). They admitted me to Presby in Greenville but that was just to stablize me as they searched for a room in Dallas. The reason I needed to go to Dallas was because I needed a specific type of Dr. An Endo--------, they were the only type of Dr that could prescribe the medicine I needed to take thru an IV and there was not one on staff in Greenville. Finally they got me a room at Doctor's Hospital in Dallas and transferred me up there. My Thyroid specialist Dr Pacheo got me on the new drugs and started me on the road to recovery.

Night of April 21st -- Morning of April 22nd

We had a major setback as my body crashed again. Once more it tried to slip into a Myxedema Coma. Dr Pacheo increased the thyroid drug he was giving me and added another drug to spur my adreanal gland which had apparently joined the various body parts that were on "Vacation". I noticed I failed to mention that one of the by-products of my thryoid condition was an enlarged prostrate, an enlarged spleen and an enlarged heart (The left side). The heart was the one that the Doc's were the most concerned about and was the reason that Dr Pacheo added the new drug.

April 24th

Dr Pacheo felt I had stablized on the medication enough to send me home!!! I was of course going to be on light duty for a while and had a follow up visit for Thursday May 3rd to determine the next step but The Doc's and I felt like we had turned the corner and was on the road to recover.

April 25th

Today -- So far things are going fairly well. We stopped on the way home from the hospital yesterday to pick up more medicine and to be honest I got totally exhausted just sitting in the motorized buggy running around Wal-mart while they filled the presciption. So I am taking it very easy today, I am gonna go check the mail and get a Dr Pepper in a few minutes but that's about all I am gonna do for an hour or two after I post these comments. Later this afternoon I am going to try and update some of the other websites a bit and post some new photo's I have of my grandson. Please keep me in your prayers and I will continue to update this subject as long as it remains an issue in my life.

Oh Unk I truly didn't realize how sick you were. You know you will be in family's constant prayers. Please do listen to the docs, and to the wisdom of your wife and family -- they love you dearly, and only want what's best. Try not to get discouraged, frustrated or unsettled (I know, easier said than done); just remember, we may not know what the future holds, but we know Who Holds The Future!
Blessings and Prayers,
The Pons Family

I'm glad to see you back around, and pray for your continued recovery and your continued success in leaving the cigarettes alone. I have a lot of respect for your words and wisdom.
